"Play, Rate, Share": Xbox Wants A Community News

Microsoft reveals the details and first range of games to hatch from XNA incubation...
Ushering in the YouTube of videogames, or at least what Microsoft hopes to achieve, Xbox 360 owners will soon be able play, rate, and share games created by the community.
Perhaps a backup plan to bridge the gap when Too Human slips into 2009, the open distribution network for user-created games (via XNA Studio 2.0) is already being labelled by Microsoft as yet another pioneering effort following Xbox Live and high-definition visuals.
It's hard to fault Microsoft eagerness for sharing the knowledge, and we hope the initial momentum carries on with the same level of quality demonstrated in the initial range of games.
Although Microsoft is billing it as a community, that move seems to be little more than jumping on the popular bandwagon. We've had a look at XNA Game Studio 2.0, it's baffling, it's just not as intuitive as recording drunk antics on a mobile phone and sticking it up on YouTube. In actuality, it will provide the platform for small development teams and one or two determined individuals to bring fresh and creative experiences to the forefront, letting the "daddy" developers to spend billions on Halo 7 and Metal Gear Solid 5!
What we fear somewhat slightly is the vast amounts of guff to wade through just to find the one or two games actually worth playing. Admittedly, the initial range is highly impressive; JellyCar is quite brilliant, Little Gamers is shallow but fun in a disturbingly satirical way, Dishwasher is stylish and excellent - well worth a look. But, amidst claims of "quickly" doubling the size of the Xbox 360 game library and promises of more than 1000 titles before the end of 2008, we're slightly fearful Microsoft's "thorough peer-review" won't be thorough enough.
Thankfully, you can make up your own mind and download the first range of community titles available on the marketplace now. Look for the XNA Creators Club download on the Marketplace and follow instructions.
