Yankee Analysts Expect Slim Win For PS3 News

As expectations over the looming next-gen console war continue, a new prediction is made...
As market and research analysts all attempt to read a crystal ball and predict the outcome of the next-gen console war, another company (this time Yankee Group) has revealed its expectations for the next five years.
Laying their cards on the table, Yankee expects that the PlayStation3 will win by 2011, despite being pushed hard by Microsoft's Xbox 360, and take 44% of the market share. They predict that Xbox 360 will come in second with 40%, with Nintendo's Wii following in third place with 16%.
"With a growing installed base of connected consoles, content owners are beginning to recognize the potential video game consoles offer as a distribution channel," said Michael Goodman, Yankee Group Media & Entertainment Strategies Senior Analyst. "Additionally, these platforms will serve as a strong medium for advertising, validating the growing market for in-game and around game advertising."
Yankee Group also expects there to be fewer units sold during the next-generation as a result of 'platform lag' (gamers sticking with current-gen systems for longer), and the higher price of next-gen platforms.
The analyst's predictions come just weeks after another company, DFC Intelligence predicted that in a worst case scenario, PlayStation3 could come third behind Microsoft and Nintendo.
