As Sony gears up to enter the race, Microsoft sends us the latest stats from Xbox Live...
Despite shaky performance over the last couple of days, (presumably as a result of Lumines Live finally being released) Xbox Live subscribers today sailed past the 4 million mark, as Microsoft gears up to release the sixth iteration of the online service with an Autumn/Fall update.
With four million subscribers in the first four years of activity, Microsoft expects the figure to rise to 6 million by Summer 2007, a slight setback from earlier predictions of May 2007.
The latest details on the Xbox Live Marketplace suggests that over 70% of Xbox 360 owners are actively downloading content (a drop compared to earlier figures of 85% in March), with over 70 million items downloaded in the 11 months since the 360 launch.
The success and popularity of Xbox Live Arcade looks set to continue, with over 12 million downloads since the service launched and more than a 1000 Xbox Live Arcade concepts submitted to Microsoft for approval. Over 24% of gamers that download a trial version of an Xbox Live Arcade title follow up with a full purchase, with this family-hit UNO reaching a conversion rate of 50%.
Since the launch of Xbox Live in November 2002, more than two billion hours of gameplay have been recorded, whilst the service has also become a popular means of communicating with over 9 million text and voice messages sent every week.
