Xbox 360 Demand Drives Revenue Growth For Microsoft News

Eighty percent revenue growth in Microsoft's Home and Entertainment division confirmed in the third quarter...
Microsoft has today announced its financial results for the third quarter of the 2006 fiscal year, ending on March 31st 2006, which has seen the corporation as a whole experience a 13% rise in revenues to $10.9 billion (£6.0 billion).
Delving deeper into the mass of figures and tabular breakdowns, the company's Home and Entertainment division experienced a massive revenue increase of 80% from $571 million (£315.9 million) in the third quarter of FY2005 to $1.1 billion (£584.3 million). Comparative revenues for the first nine months in both years shows an increase of $565 million (£312.6 million)to $3.1 billion (£1.7 billion). Microsoft cites the demand for Xbox 360 as the main reason for the growth.
At the same time losses at the division more than doubled on the year from $175 million (£98.8 million) in 2005 to $388 million (£214.7 million), with losses for the nine months to date also rising from $284 million (£157.1 million) in 2005 to $848 million (£469.1 million).
Looking ahead to the end of the fiscal year on June 30th 2006, Microsoft states that one of a number of factors that could change the outlook includes:
"...key component shortages and delays in Xbox(r) product delivery..."
Despite reports and assurances that the company has solved a lot of the problems related to component shortages, it seems that Microsoft are hedging their bets ahead of further Xbox 360 launches during the course of the next few months.
