Nearly two and half years on from launch, Microsoft's console turns the fortunes of the Entertainment & Devices Division by $1.3 billion...
Microsoft has today confirmed that global sales of Xbox 360 has topped 19 million units since the console launched in November 2005.
News of the latest milestone for the console comes as the Corporation published its latest financial results for the third quarter of fiscal 2008. The Entertainment & Devices Division, which includes the Xbox 360, recorded an operating income of $89 million (£44.8 million), the third straight quarter in succession. The three-month profit for the division significantly raises the chances of it experiencing a whole fiscal year in the black.
The improved performance has also helped the nine-month figures for the division, which has achieved something quite astounding: overturning an operating loss of $746 million (£375.9 million) in 2007 to record an operating income across the three quarters of $614 million (£309.4 million) - a turnaround of $1.3 billion (£655.1 million).
The 68% increase in revenues over the past three months is being attributed to the 'robust demand for Xbox 360 consoles' by Microsoft. Well considering Zune is only available across North America, we assumed that would be the case...
