Microsoft confirms the replacement for the Core system is ready for a UK launch from Friday...
Microsoft UK has today confirmed that the Xbox 360 Arcade, the long-mooted replacement for the vanilla Core system, will be released across the country from Friday (October 26th) for £199.99.
The latest bid by the platform holder to shed its hardcore gaming image, the Arcade edition of Xbox 360 will feature five XBLA games (Uno, Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Pac-Man Championship Edition, and Luxor 2), together with a 256MB memory card, wireless controller, and thanks to the launch of the Falcon motherboard, an HDMI port. Activision has also announced its support to the XBLA platform with confirmation that 'Shrek-N-Roll' will be an Xbox 360 exclusive.
"As European families gather together this Christmas, it's the perfect time to launch a family orientated Xbox 360 package that plays games, video and music for everyone to enjoy," said Stephen McGill, Head of Gaming and Entertainment for Microsoft UK. "In addition to offering an incredible all-in-one package for families to get right into the fun, the Xbox 360 Arcade system features the industry leading family settings that allow parents to control what their kids are watching and playing, and we know how important that control is to families around the world."
Despite bundling a selection of XBLA titles with the Arcade pack, the system does face one obstacle: Wii, which remains cheaper by £20. Microsoft is trying to claw into a wider market with the likes of Viva Pinata, but it's difficult to see the Arcade system having less than a steep incline to overcome thanks to Nintendo's little white box.
