Xbox 2 = PC/Xbox Hybrid??? News

CNN claims that Xbox2 could play PC games; come complete with Windows, a keyboard and a mouse…
Continuing on with his series of scoops, Chris Morris from CNN today alleged that Xbox2/Xbox Next would be even closer to a PC then the current Xbox format.
Bucking the widely held belief that Xbox2 would be substantially different to the âPC-in-a-Boxâ structure of the current format, Morris claims that Microsoft are currently conducting studies on the appeal of a hybrid device that would play both Xbox and PC games.
This suggestion stems from a comment from Peter Moore, Corporate Vice-President of Worldwide Marketing and Publishing, who claimed, "We would be remiss if we didn't look at consumer scenarios that take advantage of our strengths," adding "But this is one amongst many, many other consumer scenarios that we're looking at."
However further proof comes from the allegation that a Californian-based market research group, The B/R/S Group, is currently gathering feedback on a device that Morris alleges to be named Xbox Next PC â“ a videogame console, with a HDD and a built-in fully functional PC.
If the report is led to be believed then it appears that Microsoft have decided to go with the HDD, however the comments about a âfully functional PCâ sound a little dubious to us â“ do Microsoft really see people using their Xbox2 for word processing and browsing the web???
The article goes on to claim that Xbox2 would require the use of a PC monitor or High-Definition TV (HDTV), something that we seriously have troubles believing, whilst claiming that it will offer backwards compatibility with Xbox titles. In addition to playing PC games, the report suggests that Xbox2 will include a fully functioning copy of Windows, CD Burner, DVD Player, built-in access to Xbox Live! and the HDD. Again backing against the widely held belief that Microsoft want to continue to distance the Xbox from a PC, the report claims that Xbox2 will ship with a keyboard, mouse and a standard Xbox controller.
The price of this uber machine you may be wandering⦠$599!!!
Naturally we have trouble believing this and it seems that the CNN report tries to distance itself from the suggestions, claiming that such a machine is unlikely to make it out of R&D; the fact that it goes against everything else weâve heard in the past, suggesting that it will be less like a PC then the current Xbox, makes it almost laughable.
At the time of writing Microsoft was unavailable to comment, however you can be sure of an update as soon as we hear from them.
