Reports suggest Microsoft is gearing up for yet another frustratingly addictive alternative-reality-game...
After the success and frustrations of I Love Bees, it seems that once again Microsoft want to drag millions into yet another Alternative-Reality-Game.
If youâve been on any Xbox forum in the last few days you couldnât help but come across mention of www.ourcolony.net; an intriguing website that strongly suggests âColony isnât about alternative reality gaming it *is* realityâ.
The aforementioned site provides the starting point for the âgameâ, but already Xbox fans have found links to suggest Our Colony has been set-up to begin the promotion drive behind Xbox 360.
A counter on the Our Coloney website suggests an Xbox 360 unveiling shortly before E3 on May 12th 2005, with further evidence coming from J Allardâs announcement of âThe Guideâ during last monthâs Game Developers Conference. A quick recall of the various images highlights Allardâs avatar sporting a green t-shirt, with the accompanying logo closely recognising that of the Spider on the Our Colony website. Further evidence is provided by the Xbox Power Button featuring predominantly on the Our Colony website, with what appears to be two characters morphed in the same manner as the US Presidents described below!
The âgameâ certainly looks to be targeteted towards a larger audience then the American focussed exploits of I Love Bees, with the Human Clock website featuring images taken from across the globe updated at every minute of the day!
Beyond the Human Clock trails lead to strange little web games involving Bill Clinton, George W Bush and John Kerry, along with a synopsis of Karen Kovacikâs collection of poems âBeyond the Velvet Curtainâ â“ whether or not itâs subtext of âthe purpose of poetry is to remind us how difficult it is to remain just one personâ provides a clue remains to be seen.
