Christmas 2004 release, design schematics, who let the floodgates open…
Speculation regarding the Xbox2 has reached fever point in the last few days, with various reports suggesting release dates and proposed specifications.
Various articles have recently suggested that the Xbox2 will feature:
- Three IBM designed 64-bit PowerPC 976 microprocessors, earlier versions of which have appeared in Appleās high-end G5 PowerMac units; claiming to be the first PowerPC chips to be built upon 65nm technology.
- ATi designed GPU, with speeds far in excess of the forthcoming R400 graphics card.
However a posting on a Chinese Bulletin Board has recently drawn attention to a possible schematic for the Xbox2, which brings some contradictions to the widely held specs listed above. In fact taking just one quick glance reveals a number of issues, which lead us to believe the block diagram is a fake.
With E3 forthcoming itās only natural to assume that the rumour floodgates would be opened, however until more concrete information becomes available or Microsoft make an official announcement regarding specs, release dates, etcā¦ weād advise to treat all of these with a pinch of salt.
All we want to know is whether itās going to be able to make us a cup of tea in the morning.
