M-Systems CEO claims that the Xbox2 won’t ship with a HDD, Microsoft quickly dismiss such allegations…
Having recently secured an agreement to provide flash memory storage products for future Xbox products, M-Systems CEO Dov Moran recently alleged that Xbox2 wonât ship with a hard-drive.
Speaking to Globes Online; when asked about the recent agreement, Moran claimed:
âItâs a cooperation agreement. The potential isnât clear, but itâs in the billions of dollars. Microsoft has taken the hard disk out of its Xbox. The only thing left will be a CD; thatâs all. At some point, when users want to save their e-mail messages, copy music, or anything like that, the only storage theyâll have is what we give them. Itâs worth hundreds of millions to the company, spread over a few years, and weâll be the main supplier for it; and I hope the sole supplier.
âMeanwhile, development is intense, and requires expenses, although not major ones. Weâll start supply only in 2005.â
Naturally Microsoft were keen to dismiss the allegations, and claimed that Moran is purely speculating; however if the information proves to be true, then itâs highly unlikely that Xbox2 will offer backwards compatibility.
