Wow! WoW Smashes North American PC Record News

PC one-day sales record for North America is smashed as Blizzard’s MMORPG launches in time for Thanksgiving…

Blizzardâs recently released World of Warcraft title has become the most successful PC game in the North American territory following the announcement that the 240,000 copies of the game had been sold on the release date, with that figure rising to 350,000 over the Thanks-giving weekend.

200,000 WoW accounts were opened on the release day, and at times half of those accounts were playing concurrently. This success meant that the original 40 servers that had been set aside for the game were full, and an addition 40 servers had to be set up to meet the increasing demands.

Proud President of Blizzard Entertainment, Mike Morhaime, said "We were all extremely pleased with the success of World of Warcraft on its first day of launchâ¦Once we saw the numbers for the first day, we knew that we had to immediately increase capacity to accommodate the huge numbers of players joining our game. We're glad so many people are enjoying World of Warcraft, and we are dedicated to supporting a fun and smooth game experience for everyone."

American retailers also toasted the success of the game, and Robert McKenzie, Vice President of Merchandising at GameStop commented that, "World of Warcraft has once again shown that Blizzard consistently delivers the best games in the industryâ¦It sold better than any other PC game this year - in fact, World of Warcraft enjoyed the best day-one sell-through GameStop has ever seen on a PC title!"

The game is slated for a Q1 2005 release over in the European territories, and weâll have more news on WoW shortlyâ¦

Either way, it won't be long before we find out if our Mages, Warriors, and Draenei will have to pack for arctic conditions... that sounds so stupid... draenies suck n they r a race not a class

Wow is designed in such a manner that you HAVE to commit immense number of hours into the game in order to actually achieve anythuing. All the items you will get in drops will be 2-5 levels lower. The game is designed in codepency and farming tons of... [ Read full comment... ]

It's silly to call one MMO is better than another. They are all designed to target different market shares and niches. Thats like going to a women's shoestore and complaining that their are no boots. It is not the stores fault, it is yours.
