Codemasters reveal more details on the various munitions both old and new available, as well as the weapons factory...
Codemasters has today announced some of the weapons that will be available in the forthcoming title Worms 4: Mayhem, developed by Team 17. The game, which will be released on July 29th 2005 on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 2, will feature the classic Worms weaponry as well as some new additions such as the Inflatable Scouser and Sniper Rifle. But before chronic confusion sets in about how a citizen of Liverpool could possibly be used as an offensive weapon, hereâs the breakdown according to Codies:
Fatkins Strike
This somewhat overweight missile causes craters on impact before exploding and inflicting even more damage to any worms caught in the blast.
Flood
This flood inducing weapon will cause the water level to rise, drowning any worm standing at the lower reaches of a world â“ which also means that any other worm on the map is that little bit closer to Davy Jonesâ Lockerâ¦
Inflatable Scouser
This worm inflating Liverpudlian will float up into the air using an enemy worm as a hot-air balloon before plummeting back down to earth, taking the enemy invertebrate with him.
Poison Arrow
This weapon will disperse a cloud of poisonous gas after embedding itself into the environment or any unfortunate worm.
Sentry Gun
This is an automatic worm killing machine that detects and shoots at any enemy that gets too close.
Sniper Rifle
This favourite of the FPS genre makes an appearance in Worms 4: Mayhem, allowing gamers to select a target and zoom in for the kill.
Starburst Rocket
This weapon involves the sacrifice of one your own worms, but it might be worth it. The Starburst Rocket enables gamers to fly around the environment before dive-bombing and subsequently exploding onto an enemy worm.
A new feature to the Worms franchise is the Weapons Factory, which enables players to pick and mix various components to create the ultimate in worm destruction. Each weapon element costs a specific number of points, so if a player wants to make the weapon have homing capabilities, then there would be less points available to apply towards damage. As well as the regular guns and grenades, the factory also includes comedy elements including monkeys, ton weights, and buckets of sick. Nice.
Worms 4: Mayhem also includes a single-player campaign, multiplayer modes, a challenge mode, and new environments. Weâll have more shortlyâ¦
