Blizzard Entertainment's all-conquering MMO helps take Vivendi Games' revenues...
Vivendi Games has today revealed its full year financial results for 2007, which has seen the division break through revenues of over one billion Euros for the very first time...thanks to World of Warcraft.
Around three quarters of Vivendi Games' revenues are down to Blizzard Entertainment's MMO, up 58% on the year to 814 million Euros, whilst the rest of the division (including Sierra Entertainment and Sierra Online) experienced a drop of 29% on the year to 204 million Euros.
The publisher revealed that despite the continued success of World of Warcraft, which saw the first expansion pack (The Burning Crusade) released in January 2007, the twelve month's slate of titles including World in Conflict and Crash of the Titans failed to perform as well as the raft of games back in 2006.
Fourth quarter revenues also dropped in all areas of Vivendi Games, including a massive drop of 32% for Sierra Entertainment on the year...that is, except for WoW, which saw an increase of 19% compared to the same period in 2006.
As the era of Activision Blizzard edges ever nearer, it's very clear from the back of today's financials why the new company won't be called 'Activision Vivendi'.
