WoW Helps Push Vivendi Games Results News

The continued success of Blizzard's MMO helps to drive Vivendi Games' revenues up at the end of the fiscal year...

Vivendi has today released its financial results for the fourth quarter and full year of fiscal 2006, which ended on December 31st 2006, including details on the continuing performance of its videogame arm, Vivendi Games.

Whilst figures for the group as a whole reached the stratosphere, recording revenues for the year of 20.04 billion Euros (£13.64 billion), up from 19.48 billion Euros (£13.26 billion) in 2005, and net income of 2.61 billion Euros (£1.78 billion), up from 2.22 billion Euros (£1.51 billion) the previous year, Vivendi Games also had reason to celebrate - courtesy of Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft.

Fourth quarter revenue increases for the division rose over 33% on the same period in 2005, from 245 million Euros (£166.7 million) to 326 million (£221.9 million), whilst full year results saw revenues jump by over 25% from 641 million Euros (£436.2 million) to 804 million Euros (£547.2 million). Vivendi primarily cites the Azeroth-based MMO for the increase in revenue, though other titles released in 2006 including Ice Age 2, Scarface: The World is Yours, and the Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R. also contributed.

Jean-Bernard Lévy, Chairman of Vivendi's Management Board: "This is the best result ever achieved by Vivendi...the Group's business units have continued to strengthen their positions and to develop innovative products that meet the expectations of consumers."

Vivendi also announced group forecasts in excess of 2.70 billion Euros (£1.84 billion) in 2007, rising to a target of between 3.50 billion (£2.38 billion) and 4.00 billion Euros (£2.72 billion) by 2011.

Either way, it won't be long before we find out if our Mages, Warriors, and Draenei will have to pack for arctic conditions... that sounds so stupid... draenies suck n they r a race not a class

Wow is designed in such a manner that you HAVE to commit immense number of hours into the game in order to actually achieve anythuing. All the items you will get in drops will be 2-5 levels lower. The game is designed in codepency and farming tons of... [ Read full comment... ]

It's silly to call one MMO is better than another. They are all designed to target different market shares and niches. Thats like going to a women's shoestore and complaining that their are no boots. It is not the stores fault, it is yours.
