WoW For Blizzard As Chinese Subscriptions Hits 1.5 Million News

Four weeks since the Chinese launch of World of Warcraft, subscriptions break through the 1.5 million mark...

Blizzard Entertainment has today announced that a month after their MMORPG World of Warcraft launched in China, subscriptions in the Far Eastern country has broken through the 1.5 million mark, bringing the global figure to 3.5 million. WoW is operated in China by MMO operator The9 and are responsible for providing localisation of content, player feedback, and content updates.

âWorld of Warcraftâs success in China has quickly exceeded our expectations, and seeing Chinese gamers respond so enthusiastically to the game has been extremely gratifying,â said Mike Morhaime, President and Co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. âWe thank the players for embracing World of Warcraft, our partner The9 for helping to make all of this possible, and the Chinese authorities for their support of Blizzard Entertainment.â

Chinese gamers across the country have embraced World of Warcraft,â said Michael Fong, Blizzard Entertainment Managing Director, Greater China, âand we are committed to responding with continual updates to the game, including new dungeons for players to explore, additional player-vs.-player content, ongoing live events, and much more. Blizzard and The9 also remain dedicated to delivering unparalleled service to Chinese gamers with fully localized content and local, around-the-clock customer support.â

Blizzard is hoping to launch in Taiwan and other parts of Asia in the coming months.

Either way, it won't be long before we find out if our Mages, Warriors, and Draenei will have to pack for arctic conditions... that sounds so stupid... draenies suck n they r a race not a class

Wow is designed in such a manner that you HAVE to commit immense number of hours into the game in order to actually achieve anythuing. All the items you will get in drops will be 2-5 levels lower. The game is designed in codepency and farming tons of... [ Read full comment... ]

It's silly to call one MMO is better than another. They are all designed to target different market shares and niches. Thats like going to a women's shoestore and complaining that their are no boots. It is not the stores fault, it is yours.
