According to reports from the US, sales of Nintendo's next-gen system surpasses both Xbox 360 and PS3 in January...
As the dawn of the next-generation continues across the Atlantic, the sales performance of the three consoles is slowly becoming clearer, with Wii setting the pace for January. Citing market research company NPD Group, Credite Suisse analyst Heath Terry has revealed that US sales of all three systems dropped during January - not surprising in the post-Christmas hangover.
Wii suffered the smallest drop, from 604,000 units in December to 436,000, with PlayStation3 sales declining from 491,000 units to 244,000 units. The greatest drop was suffered by Microsoft, which despite improving on the year with increased year-on-year sales of 18% for January, saw Xbox 360 sales drop from 1.13 million units in December to 294,000 units.
Despite the drop in sales between December and January, Microsoft refused to be disheartened: "Xbox 360 had a fantastic January, and we feel great about our position in the marketplace," said Microsoft Group Manager, Molly O'Donnell.
