The BBFC confirms to TVG that both versions were rejected individually...
As the fallout from the BBFC's decision not to classify Rockstar Games' Manhunt 2 continues to rumble across the videogames industry, numerous media outlets have been quick to jump onto the Wii version as the likely reason behind the ruling.
TVG today contacted the BBFC in the hope to clarify the situation, and whilst they were unwilling to divulge further details behind the decision, a spokesperson did confirm that the "... game was rejected individually on both platforms because of content."
Effectively ruling out the common consensus that the increased interactivity offered by the Wii version was to blame, the statement does eliminate the chances of Rockstar dropping the Wii version and re-submitting the PlayStation2 version in the hope to salvage three years worth of work.
[UPDATE] Slightly muddying the water, representatives from the BBFC have confirmed to TVG that as the PSP version of Manhunt 2 is essentially the same as the unclassified PS2 version, it too has been banned - though it's unclear whether the PSP version was individually submitted for approval in the first place.
