Wii Fit - Nobody Uses It? News

A Japanese poll reveals that 64% of those asked stopped playing Wii Fit after purchase...

We'll admit it Wii Fit surprised us with its entertaining fitness routines and funky balance board. Certainly nobody can argue against the "game's" success, which has been yo-yoing in and out of the UK charts due to supply issues - it seems Wii owners can't get enough.

However a recent poll featured on the Japanese website ITMedia (brought to our attention by Kotaku), has revealed that 64% of the 1000 people asked "stopped using after purchase".

The full response was:
  • 22% - I record my progress faithfully everyday.
  • 6% - Maybe once every two or three days.
  • 6% - Once a week.
  • 64% - Stopped using after purchase.

We'll admit this isn't particularly surprising, after all, the road to hell is paved with good intentions, and anything to do with exercise is bound to fail after a short period for most people. After loosing several collective pounds we've discarded our Wii Balance Board, only to bring it out briefly when Family Ski arrived through the office several weeks after it hit the shops.

Perhaps Wii Fit was a success in many ways, but it seems Shigeru Miyamoto and co stopped short of making the "game" compulsive enough over the long term. We blame the lack of mini-games, once you've seen 'em all, the appeal pretty much dwindles. New downloadable games that's what you need Nintendo, and by the look of things pretty quick.

However the urge to go back is still strong, we're all beginning to pile on the pounds again and the only real thing stopping us is the lack of self determination - we can't exactly blame Nintendo for that.

Is this figure isolated to Japanese Wii Fit owners, do UK Wii Fit'ers have more resolve or is your Balance Board gathering dust - let us know your opinions below.

Been thinking of getting this. Heard both good n' bad reviews (and couple cautionary things from real fitness xprts). Sounds like they should've market Bal Board as new game component and the games as actual separate games/programs and let people b... [ Read full comment... ]

I have been using Wii Fit for 32 days now and have lost 10 lbs with 11 and 1/4 hours logged. I am 53 years old and need to lose another 6 lbs to get out of that overweight area on the graph, but so far I still love it. It has been a lot of fun. I ... [ Read full comment... ]

Just managed to order this and can't wait to get it. Anything that makes me do more exercise than I do now has got to be a good purchase!
