Bigger, badder and bloodier than ever before, with added Bra and Panty matches, although Goldberg already seems to have his panties on show…

Developed by Yukes, the 'SmackDown!' Series has been one of the better wrestling series out there and enjoyed commercial success because of this, although the last title, âShut Your Mouthâ rather let the side down. The recently announced 'Here Comes The Pain' looks set address complaints levelled at the last game.

There will be a story mode that features original plot lines created by the WWE writers, which should ensure that things are suitably ridiculous for the fifty-five plus characters in the game. Fighters will be improved graphically, specular highlighting doing a good job of making them look all sweaty, or oiled up, whichever it is. Animations will be improved to give an even more realistic appearance, and looking at the expressions on Goldbergâs face â“ his panties on too tight? â“ it seems that Yukes have done a good job. All of the wrestlers will be voiced by their real-life counterpart, which we are imagining will make the story mode even more like the real thing, and perhaps with better acting.

Away from presentation things there will be changes to the fighting system, enhanced counters and an interactive submission system. Increased statistics for the fighters should, with the improved fighting system, help make things even more realistic, but we will have to wait and see whether this is merely marketing rhetoric or actually affects the gameplay. There will be new fight modes including Bra & Panty, First Blood and Elimination Chamber, the first two are self explanatory, but the last one sounds mysterious, and painful.

'WWE SmackDown! Here Comes The Pain' is due to be released in the UK this November on PlayStation2.
