SEGA confirms the development of Virtua Tennis World Tour for the PSP...

SEGA of America and SEGA Europe today gave all PSP owners the news theyâve wanted to hear, confirming in a joint-announcement that the stupendously addictive Virtua Tennis will be heading to the handheld format.

Continuing SEGAâs recent strategy of developing its IP in Western markets, Sumo Digital has once again been enlisted to develop Virtua Tennis World Tour, having previously converted Outrun 2 to the Xbox.

The game promises to be designed specifically for the PSP and will feature the standard repertoire of internationally renowned pros, a create player mode, mini-games and a vast selection of courts to play on.

Itâs the prospect of Wi-Fi 4-player however thatâs getting us into a state, Virtua Tennis was the reason why the Dreamcast featured four joypad ports and so we can expect something to wear away the PSP battery until the wee hours of the morning...

âVirtua Tennis on PSP successfully combines the legendary gameplay of the Virtua Tennis range with great new features designed for the gamer on the go,â commented Matt Woodley, Creative Director of SEGA. âAdd to that a roster of licensed players and the game looking gorgeous on the PSPâs amazing screen and youâve got what I believe is a must-have title.â

Virtua Tennis World tour is scheduled for release during autumn 2005; weâll have further coverage soon.
