Virtua Tennis 3 Serves Up SixAxis Control News

SEGA releases details on how Virtua Tennis 3 is taking advantage of the PlayStation3 controller...

SEGA today confirmed details of how it is exploiting the PlayStatyion3 SixAxis controller in the forthcoming return of Virtua Tennis.

By selecting 'motion sensor' from the configuration, players can move the onscreen tennis player by tilting the pad in a certain direction. Players can also serve up aces and a variety of other shots by using the controller in a similar manner to a tennis racquet, swinging the controller up quickly to perform a lob shot; down quickly to perform a slice shot and a horizontal movement to apply top spin.

Whether or not the unwieldy shape of the PlayStation3 controller compared to the ergonomic design of the Wii remote will impede its effectiveness remains to be seen, though we have some reservations that the precise gameplay of the Virtua Tennis series could be sacrificed somewhat by the change from a traditional button layout.
