16% increase in sales makes 2007 the biggest year of gaming for the UK...
UK videogame association ELSPA has today revealed that 2007 has been a bumper year for the industry, smashing previous records set last year.
Notching up sales worth £87.9 million (an increase of over 27% in value and 16% in units) the figures have been attributed to public demand for Wii and DS titles, the launch of PlayStation 3, and the continued success of Xbox 360.
Paul Jackson, Director General of ELSPA, said: "2007 has been a fantastic year for our industry as all the latest generation of consoles and hand-held devices have become fully established. Videogaming is now enjoyed by everyone, young and old, male and female. Interactive entertainment is now truly mass market, and this is just the beginning of a period of real sustained growth."
News of the industry's success at retail in the UK comes on the same day that the association revealed it thought a move to introduce tax incentives to help drive development in country wouldn't necessarily work.
