Informa Telecoms & Media research predicts a next-gen peak as Sony dominance dwindles...
Claiming a 5.3% increase in size compared to 2004, new research from Informa Telecoms & Media has recently predicted the global games industry to be worth $35.3 billion across 2005.
A leading provider of business intelligence and strategic services, the fifth edition of Informaâs âDynamic of Gamesâ goes on to suggest the next-generation of consoles will lead to the largest peak ever seen by the industry, with a global market worth $58.4 billion (£33 billion/49 billion euros) in 2007.
According to Zenobia Talati, co-author of the report, Sony will be less dominant this time around. She said: âWhile we still expect the PS3 to lead the next wave of consoles, it will not be the one-horse race of the previous generation. The Xbox 360 will benefit from first-mover advantage and Nintendo has already revealed some interesting ideas for its Revolution concept.â
The report features a breakdown of the expectations for every sector until 2010; with an intriguing decrease expected in handheld sales during the period, it will be interesting to see whether theyâve taken into account Nintendoâs wishes for the GBA2. The plight of PC gaming in wake of online titles is further highlighted with a 32% decrease, whilst the Broadband sector soars by 227% between 2005 and 2010.
The 200-page report The Dynamics of Games (5th edition) is published by Informa Telecoms & Media, which produces several media business publications, including the Mobile Games Analyst, Broadband Markets, TV International and New Media Markets newsletters.

most games you can play like a bare bones version with just one copy and 2/3 DS's, some you need a copy of the game each. like mariokart has a few courses and only one character for each person if you're sharing a catridge, but ... [ Read full comment... ]
