Vice City In Total US Ban??? News

It doesn’t look as though this one will die away as the Haitian community seek total ban in America…

Shortly before the Christmas break RockStar Games were forced to back down over inflammatory scenes contained in âGTA: Vice Cityâ, instructing players to âkill the Haitiansâ and rewarding points for successful kills.

A Haitian civil rights group filed a lawsuit against RockStar Games, seeking to remove the offensive scene from future copies and more then $15,000 in damages.

RockStar agreed to remove the scene prior to Christmas and made a full apology for offending anyone after an intervention by the New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The suit has now been passed on to Federal Courts at the bequest of RockStar, with the Haitian-American civil group seeking a complete ban on all future versions of the game.

Whilst the media has been quick to label RockStar as glorifying racism, the whole situation is once again a reminder of how the videogames industry is wrongly perceived to be squarely aimed at children. No one needs reminding that similar inflammatory remarks are common in films and music, and as the guys so correctly pointed out at GamesIndustry the comments are made about a Haitian drugs gang and not about the general Haitian race.

Letâs just hope that whoever oversees the suit has the responsibility to realise that âGTA: Vice Cityâ is a videogame geared towards adults and that videogame developers are free to express their views and opinions.
