The attempt to avoid a VHS/Betamax war is still ongoing but should succeed, according to Toshiba...


Following on from earlier news , the attempt to avoid a VHS/Betamax style format war in the development of next-generation DVD is still ongoing. Today itâs been reported by global news outlet Reuters that Tadashi Okamura, President of Toshiba expects a unification of the two next-gen formats, Toshiba backed HD-DVD and Sonyâs Blu-Ray (which is set to feature in the companyâs forthcoming console PlayStation3) although no time scale was released.

"We may actually have a situation where merchandise from both sides are put on store shelves. But the market would not allow that situation to last very longâ commented Okamura.

The race is on for an agreement with the PlayStation3 set to be launched in the Spring of 2006. Weâll have more shortly...

It's Final Fantasy VII sequel. That date is the same time as scheduled Square Enix DKS3713 August 2nd/3rd.

this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways
