Ubisoft makes move into sports market, announcing agreement with Vijay Singh...
Ubisoft today announced its intentions to step into the sports market, with the announcement that it has signed an exclusive agreement with Vijay Singh.
In an effort that blatantly steps on the toes of EA and Tiger Woods, Ubisoft will develop and publish a videogame series based on the No.1 ranked golfer in the world which will utilise technology, tools and source code acquired from Microsoft Game Studios.
As Microsoft move away from the sports market, Ubisoft have additionally acquired the technology, tools and source code behind many of Microsoft Game Studios sports games, including NHL Rivals, NFL Fever, NBA Inside Drive and MLB Inside Pitch. Certainly this gives some indication of Ubisoftâs intention to challenge EA in the sports market, with plans to develop games for all platforms, concentrating initially on consoles including Xbox and next-gen formats.
