As the latest Tom Clancy series from publishers Ubisoft, H.A.W.X will burn up the skies on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC...
Ubisoft has unveiled the latest Tom Clancy series to join the fray. Set for release in the autumn of this year on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, H.A.W.X. is a flight sim set in 2012 where private military companies hold the balance of power (sounds familiar).
The game will feature 50 aircraft to pilot and an Enhanced Reality System (or ERS), which provides everything a pilot could ever need at their fingertips, from anti-crash systems to weapon trajectory controls. The ERS can also provide assistance to flight sim newbies by offering a maximum safety mode that turns on various flight aids, reports IGN.
As an acronym for High Altitude Warfare X, H.A.W.X. will certainly have its fair share of high octane air combat (although we're determined not to make any Top Gun references). This will include a co-op campaign mode for up to 4 players and adversarial multiplayer modes for up to 16 players.
Also under development at Ubisoft Bucharest, Air Combat was officially revealed by Ubisoft last September and, as the game details are near identical, we're assuming that H.A.W.X. is one and the same game. Another game title that was leaked very early-on was Firehawk. Perhaps Ubisoft felt these two names were a bit too close to Ace Combat and Warhawk. The recent acquisition by Ubisoft of everything Tom Clancy probably helped as well.
Ubisoft's H.A.W.X. unveiling also explains the bizarre goings on at the publisher's Ghost Recon site over the past few days. A teaser that loads up on entering the site displayed disrupted video and radio chatter of an airborne combat sequence. While many had taken this to be a GRAW 3 teaser (us included - blame the Welshman), it has now become clear that this was a viral for H.A.W.X.
