Ubisoft confirm Island Thunder and leave us pondering when is an expansion disk not an expansion disk...
Ubisoft today confirmed plans to release a new campaign disk for the Xbox Live! title Ghost Recon.
Ghost Recon: Island Thunder is a stand-alone disk that does not require the original Ghost Recon to work, allowing newcomers and GR veterans to join the battlefield together. The disk includes 12 game types and 12 multiplayer maps, the disk will also open up future content download options.
"The Clancy brand owes its incredible popularity to gamers who want an intense and realistic gameplay experience," said Alain Corre, Ubi Soft's Managing Director for Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and South America. "With this new campaign disk, Ubi Soft Entertainment can give back to Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon fans, providing them with more of their favourite Ghost action."
"Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon is one of our most popular games on Xbox Live and has everyone going wild!" said Michel Cassius, European Director of Xbox Platform, Microsoft. "With Xbox Live, gamers can download exciting new content like, missions and maps, injecting new energy into gameplay, and keeping games like this fresh and engaging."
However this isnāt the first time weāve heard about Thunder Island; scratching our heads hard enough, revealed that the French publisher announced and quietly released the expansion pack for the PC version last year. Further research revealed that this Xbox campaign disk will be based on the Cuban campaign from the said PC expansion disk, whilst also containing four maps from the previous expansion pack Ghost Recon: Desert Siege and four multiplayer maps from the original Xbox version of Ghost Recon.
Ghost Recon: Island Thunder is scheduled for release sometime in Q3, with no pricing details confirmed at this point.
