UT2003/UT2004 Not Compatible News

Epic step back on their intention of making UT2004 network compatible with previous versions…
In a post to an Unreal Tournament community forum, itâs been suggested that the forthcoming âUnreal Tournament 2004â will not be network compatible with âUnreal Tournament 2003â as was originally planned.
In a comment attributed to Tim Sweeney, Founder and President Epic Games, it was claimed that:
âNetworking won't work between UT2003 and UT2004. We had initially planned to support that, but the network code has changed so much in order to reduce bandwidth, support vehicles, and increase performance, that we couldn't
keep the two games network-compatible.â
Whilst we can certainly see the hardships of getting both games to work together with the number of enhancements and extras being included in UT2004, we do have to worry that this continues to fragment the brand and not bring it together as was originally planned with the idea of annual updates more akin to a sports series.
Naturally those within the UT community have expressed concerns at the fact that porting MODS created specifically for UT2003 could now be extremely difficult to UT2004; this hasnât been confirmed as of yet, however weâll do our best to get some sort of clarification on the subject.
