By Arron Hanley on 29/03/2005 A Californian judge orders Sony to pay $90 million in damages to Immersion Corp…News emerged today that Sony have halted sales on their PlayStation and PlayStation2, Dual Shock controllers and a number of software titles following a judges ruling in California; but the injunction will not occur until after an appeal has been heard on the case.
With production halted, Sony Computer Entertainment now have to pay $90 million in damages to Immersion Corp, which has increased from $82 million that Sony were ordered to pay last year. Sony Computer Entertainment is planning to take the case to California's Federal District Court, but it will be paying a compulsory license fee to Immersion in the interim regardless. In the long term, itâs highly unlikely any of Sonyâs products mentioned above will be pulled of the shelves in North America.
Thankfully due to different Patent legislations, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will not be affected by the same injunctions enforced by the California Court.
Weâll bring you more information on the case, as we hear it.
