Creators of Death Jr become officially recognised UMD authoring service provider; announces Darkstalkers titles...

Backbone Entertainment, creators of Death Jr and the impending MechAssault debut on the Nintendo DS, today announced its approval as an officially licensed UMD authoring service provider.

Much like DVD authoring, Backbone provides a variety of services to clients looking to evolve video on the PSP, raging from designing and creating interactive menus from scratch, to converting menus from previously-released DVDs to a UMD complaint form.

"The PSP has so many different entertainment capabilities to offer," says Mike Mika, studio head of Backbone's Emeryville location. "We're excited to continue to push the limits of the platform, not only in the games that we develop, but also in every other form of media available on the system."

Backbone's first projects sees a collaboration with Capcom on Night Warriors Darkstalkers Revenge Alpha and Night Warriors Darkstalkers Revenge Omega. Based upon Capcom's popular 2D fighter series, both volumes will contain two 40-minute episodes each, and are slated for release later in the month.
