Shadow Secretary of State, Jeremy Hunt, pledges support but calls for a more socially responsible UK Games Industry...
Speaking exclusively to TVG, the Shadow Secretary of State, Jeremy Hunt, has suggested that the gaming industry in the UK is not living up to its social responsibilities and needs to cooperate with government on issues that need to be seriously examined.
This follows policies that David Cameron set-out two days ago, where he called for a review on the regulatory frameworks relating to videogames, in order that "violence and misogyny aren't promoted directly to young people."
Mr. Hunt, who spoke to MCV earlier this month where he advocated more funding for the UK games industry, said that the shadow cabinet is calling for "the [games] industry to live up to their social responsibilities and work with government."
Here are Jeremy Hunt MP's comments to TVG in full:
"I see no difficulty in supporting an incredibly important industry whilst at the same time calling for greater cooperation from them. Rather than adopting a New Labour approach of automatically introducing new regulations we have called for the industry to live up to their social responsibilities and work with Government. We want to see cooperation and engagement on an issue that needs to be seriously examined and I hope the industry will welcome this as an opportunity to work with us."
