US based publisher Mastiff has today announced the development of Top Gun for Nintendo DS. Described as a tribute to the 1986 movie, the game will take place across 10 missions over a range of terrains including the Arctic, desert, and of course the oceans. Mission objectives in the game will include high altitude dogfights, escort missions, and protecting airspace, all with weather and visual effects.

Top Gun DS will also feature multiplayer dogfights for up to four players as each fighter jets vies for aerial supremacy in a range of aircraft, as well as a soundtrack that will – according to Mastiff – be ‘reminiscent’ of the movie.

Making the announcement, Bill Swartz Head of Mastiff said, "Top Gun's intense action translates perfectly into a videogame…Top Gun exploits the capabilities of the Nintendo DS to duplicate that experience in a handheld environment."
