MTV Games and Harmonix announce strong weekly support for the release of Rock Band...
Although it comes as little relief to us considering the long wait for Rock Band's European release in 2008, Harmonix and MTV Games today announced significant weekly downloadable content that will support the game until the end of the year.
From November 20th, Rock Band owners will be able to download three-song packs from Metallica, The Police, and Queens of the Stone Age, along with individual tracks from Foreigner, Wolfmother, and The Runaways.
US pricing on the PlayStation3 is $5.49 (£2.65) per pack or $1.99 (£0.96) per song, whilst Xbox 360 stands at 440 and 160 Microsoft Points, $5.50 (£2.65) and $2 (£0.97) respectively. Embracing an iTunes mentality, Rock Band will maintain the weekly support through 2008, with individual tracks priced between $0.99 (£0.48) and $2.99 (£1.44), or 80-240 Microsoft Points ($1-3/£0.48-1.45).
Sadly the conversions at the current exchange rate are unlikely to be so appealing for Xbox 360 owners in the UK, where the Microsoft Point is valued higher. Although MTV Games has yet to reveal any details regarding the European pricing and release structure, we'd expect prices closer to £3.75 per three-song pack and between £0.68 and £2.04 for individual tracks on the Xbox Live Marketplace.
"We are excited to unleash some of the most beloved rock songs of all time for consumers to customize their Rock Band game experience - for an amazing price," said Paul DeGooyer, Senior Vice President of MTV Games. "The overwhelmingly positive response from artists, managers, music publishers and record labels has setup a queue of fantastic tracks that will continue to roll out every week."
"We are giving consumers a way to experience what is essentially a new game every week with more and more of the songs they love," said Alex Rigopulos, co-founder and CEO of Harmonix.
