EA confirm development of The Godfather for Xbox, Playstation2 and PSP, as the first details become unleashed...
Briefly appearing in a teaser-trailer last year, featuring the unmistakeable tones of the late Marlon Brando reprising his role as Don Carleone, Electronic Arts and Viacom Consumer Products today confirmed an Autumn 2005 release for The Godfather on the Xbox, Playstation2 and PSP.
Currently in development at EAās Redwood Shores Studio and inspired by Mario Puzoās novel and the timeless Francis Ford Coppolaās 1972 classic, gamers will join the Carleone family and fight to earn respect through loyalty and fear, as you rise through the ranks to become Don in a living 1945-1955 New York.
Beginning the game, players have to create their own mob character within the game, putting him into action throughout the city, while reliving classic moments from the fiction and experiencing original missions alongside memorable characters from the film. Upon being accepted into the Carleone family, itās up to the player to carry out orders, earn respect and make New York City their own, in what is shaping up to be a worthy rival to the GTA series.
The game is based around an open-ended design, presenting the player with numerous ways to solve a problem, be it brutal violence, skilful diplomacy, or a cunning mixture of the two. From mob-hits and bank-heists to drive-byās and extortion, decisions made by the player within the game are claimed to have lasting consequences.
As widely rumoured before his sudden death, Marlon Brando granted EA the rights to use his likeness within the game, and conducted a voice-over session with the developers; although itās not known exactly how much was captured, and whether or not a stand-in will be required. In addition, EA have also confirmed that James Caan and Robert Duvall will be reprising their roles as Sonny Corleone and Tom Hagen respectively.
Weāll have more on The godfather very soon.
