SCEE confirms the cancellation of two big budget first-party titles for PlayStation 3...
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has today confirmed the cancellation of two high-budget titles on PlayStation 3, The Getaway and the Eight Days.
Both games had been in the early stages of pre-production and production at SCEE's London Studio, with the outfit focusing on Eight Days first, before turning its attention to the next instalment of the British gangster franchise.
In a statement to industry-orientated GamesIndustry.biz, SCEE explained that the cancellation due to a "redistribution of resources and budget." It continued:
"This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resource should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion."
"Worldwide Studios has a reputation for innovative and entertaining games, with titles such as LittleBigPlanet, SingStar,Buzz, EyeToy and Eye of Judgement, and will continue to push the boundaries on all PlayStation platforms."
TVG only weeks ago reported on an article by The Guardian that The Getaway for PlayStation 3 had just entered the pre-production phase. A pre-rendered concept trailer for the game was released by Sony at E3 2006.
