Gary Oldman lifts the lid on a videogame tie-in for The Dark Knight as the film is poised for its UK release...

Gary Oldman has revealed that a videogame tie-in for the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight, is in the works. This news comes following the UK premiere of the film on Monday as it prepares for release across the region this Friday.

It's unclear whether Oldman (who plays the role of Lt. James Gordon in the film) was aware that the game tie-in hasn't been announced yet when he made the following comments to G4TV:

"The videogame... I saw a tiny little piece of it. They're trying to get it so that when he's gliding, that there's a feeling in it that you've never really felt before - that the game doesn't stop and start. They're trying to build it in to the system, almost like watching the film - that it's a continuous thing."

But, I mean, I'm on the rooftop. My figure just stands there with the backlight," Oldman continued. "I don't do anything; I'm really boring; I go, "Batman? We've got to get over there," and [Batman] dives off the building. I'm Jim Gordon - boring Jim Gordon. I'm on the roof."

With the lack of any official announcement from any publishers regarding an official tie-in game to the film (not to mention a lengthy PR and advertising campaign), it's a dead-cert that it won't be released alongside the motion picture.

A recent SCi (Eidos' parent company) trading update refers to "a Batman game" in its release schedule for the second half of the company's fiscal 2008/09, which could be any time between January 1st and June 30th 2009.

This is the first we've heard of a Batman game under Eidos' awnings, so there's every chance it could be this estranged film tie-in game for The Dark Knight. Films can take up to six months before they come to DVD, so perhaps the game is slated for release alongside The Dark Knight's DVD launch.

playing a game based off a MASTERPIECE of a movie that has a story line taking place after the movie's? NOOOO!!! leave the movie story line in there and would be really cool to roam around and find information on the joker and his victims, and fight ... [ Read full comment... ]

This sounds pretty cool. even though It would have been niced to have a game based off the events during the film, this still sounds promising
