Tekken Advance - First Screenshots News

Take a look at how Namco have managed to squeeze Tekken down to size for the GameBoy Advance.

These are the first ever screenshots of Tekken running on the GameBoy Advance. The game is set to be fully revealed at Spaceworld later this month; we fully expect the title to be playable.

On first impressions it seems like Namco have done a sterling job of getting Tekken onto the GameBoy Advance. The stages and characters look strikingly similar to their iterations on the PlayStation version of Tekken 3. As it happens the characters are in fact two-dimensional sprites, utilising the scaling functions of the GameBoy Advance, rather than polygonal. However because of the rather small nature of the GameBoy Advance's screen the difference between sprites and polygons is minimal.

Looking at some of the screens you can see that the camera does in fact zoom out some distance, showing off the capabilities of the GameBoy Advance. All that we need to see know is that the animation is sufficient to provide a fluid gaming experience. Also it would be very nice if Namco managed to keep the side-step feature and have the camera pan around the level, scrolling and zooming the backgrounds as in the PlayStation games.

As to the full line up of characters, multiplayer options and controls, it seems we will have to wait for Spaceworld to fully see what Namco have brought to the GameBoy Advance. Hopefully the fast paced Tekken gameplay will remain intact and smooth enough to look good.
