Tecmo Responds To Itagaki's Resignation News

Jon Wilcox

New titles are already underway at Team Ninja, as the Japanese publisher announces that Itagaki's issues should have remained a private matter...

Yesterday's news that Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki was resigning from his post on July 1st certainly came about like a bolt from the blue to the wider world, even if recent comments hinted at the move.

Itagaki's claims of unpaid bonuses have today been denied by Tecmo, in a statement released to IGN. The Japanese publisher reveals that the standard work bonuses on offer had already been paid to Itagaki, and that the unpaid bonus referred to in yesterday's statement was separate from them, in a deal agreed by the company's previous management.

Tecmo has also protested against Itagaki's public statement, commenting that the important matter should have been kept private between the two parties.

Elsewhere, the publisher announced that Team Ninja has projects underway (the Itagaki-less Dead or Alive 5 perhaps?), an exercise in reassuring fans that despite the loss of their outspoken boss, work at the studio continues regardless.

Itagaki's public statement comes in the same week that his Team Ninja swan-song, Ninja Gaiden II, goes on release across North America and Europe.

comparing MGS4 (ps3 only game) to NG2 is like apples and oranges. Arcade action to intractive movie just dumb.

How is it possible that every aspect of this game is lower than MGS4 but it managed to get the same score?

My god, what have good games or bad games or classic games got to do with Bill Gates or Sony? Why can't everybody just enjoy good games? Honestly, I gotta hand it to MS this gen for giving us superb games.

Ok, Ninja Gaiden if awsome. I can not wait to play it. By the by, I love hearing you all talk about "Game" politics, where schewed and uniformed ethical views are expressed as haphazardly as a game of the WNBA.

Yeah, I'm sure it's the last on the cards. Their dev team has a real great history of sticking with a console company lol.

And hate to break it to you Bud, but console gaming in Japan is quite alive, and quite well. It's just that the Xbox is a... [ Read full comment... ]
