Team Ninja: 720p Optimal Resolution For PS3 News

Nina Gaiden Sigma director wades in over the debate about resolutions...

With the battle between Microsoft and Sony in the next-generation stakes beginning to heat up, trivial aspects such as 720p or 1080p are increasingly being employed by the hardware giants in an attempt to get one up over each other.

In a lengthy interview with 1UP, Team Ninja's Yohsuke Hayashi Director on the forthcoming Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PlayStation3 waded in on the debate over games being displayed at 1080p, suggesting that the "higher definition" resolution is perhaps just a little too much for even the PS3.

Confirming that Ninja Gaiden Sigma will run at 720p, Hayashi claimed: "Well, this game is going to support 720p, and that is because we have determined that this is optimal resolution to get the best quality images out of the PS3."

Hayashi then moved onto cast a critical eye over developers that are pushing for 1080p support, adding:

"There are companies out there that are developing games at 1080p, and the problem is that they're really pushing the limits of the hardware at that resolution, and I think that if you examine it objectively you will see that in order to get the best balance of performance and image quality then 720p is your only choice. I think that the companies that are making a big deal out of making games at 1080p are either underestimating their ability to get their games to run well at that resolution, or they're basically just using that as an advertising gimmick."

Before defiantly concluding, "I'm confident that if you want to make the best-looking game you can on PS3, then 720p is your only choice".

I think that the real issue here is money the 360 can do all the things PS3 can do and the price is right!!! Maybe 1080p is the next, next generation!!! At the moment you will only find a handful of games running at this resolution on both formats... [ Read full comment... ]

After all those words the director of NGS said about 720p being the only best for PS3 games, NGS has been out and support 1080p!?! How ironic..

Whats this crap about the 360 being cheaper than the ps3.If the 360 lasts the estimated 10 year next gen lifetime you'll pay £400 just to play online,of course thats after you've paid £70 for the wireless adapter then £130 for the H... [ Read full comment... ]
