Take Two Sees MMO/Movie Bioshock Opportunities News

In the midst of a conference call to the 2008 SMID Cap Conference, the Take Two Chairman reveals potential plans for the future of Rapture...

Considered to be one of the top breakthrough titles of 2007, 2K Games' Bioshock has become the latest diamond in Take Two Interactive's catalogue of brands, joining the likes of GTA, Civilization, and Midnight Club - something that isn't lost on the publisher's board.

Speaking in a conference call at the rather stuffy-sounding 2008 SMID Cap Conference, Take Two Chairman Strauss Zelnick confirmed the board of directors' decision to unanimously reject the infamous $26 a share acquisition offer by Electronic Arts, together with a broad release schedule for the coming months.

Interestingly, the presentation also cited potential opportunities for Take Two brands - with Bioshock and Civilization both cropping up as possible routes for MMO releases. As if the thought of roaming around a gigantic version of Rapture with thousands of gamer-controlled Splicers isn't creepy enough, the 2K Boston/2K Australia title has also been pushed forward as potential candidate for a movie translation...

Whether either idea will see the light of day will have to be seen (a Bioshock MMO would have to be years away), but at least we're still on course for a return to Rapture in 2009.

I'm as hyped for this movie as the Halo movie, but I hope they go into detail about Rapture before Fontaine, as well as somehow show both endings. (Plot twist for me was a bit predictable.)
