Publisher rings in the changes, including the cancellation of two unannounced titles for 2010, and the closure of Concrete Games...

Following online speculation in recent days, THQ has today confirmed the cancellation of Frontlines: Fuel of War on PlayStation 3. The game, which is scheduled to launch on Xbox 360 and PC in February, has been developed by the publisher's KAOS Studio in New York City.

In addition, THQ has announced that the previously announced Destroy All Humans: Big Willy Unleashed on PlayStation 2, has also been canned. A Wii edition remains in development. Below expected sales of Stuntman: Ignition and Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights has also meant that the publisher will no longer be pursuing additional instalments in either franchise. THQ acquired the Stuntman rights from Atari in 2006, whilst the Juiced brand was picked up following the collapse of Acclaim in 2004. Two additional titles, Conan and Disney/PIXAR's Ratatouille, also achieved below par sales.

THQ has also announced the closure of Concrete Games, based in California, along with the cancellation of two titles in development for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, which has been planned for release in 2010.

The move comes as the publisher released a financial update to investors, increasing its expected revenues for the third quarter (ending December 31st 2007) from $490 million to $509 million. The increase comes amidst better than expected sales of WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2008 and MX vs ATV: Untamed.

Announcing today's news, Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ commented: "In October, we announced certain product quality initiatives, including personnel and structural changes in product development and a more rigorous internal and external product evaluation and feedback process," said. "Consistent with these initiatives, we have taken actions to strengthen our pipeline and position ourselves to compete aggressively with compelling, high quality games."
