Ubisoft confirms their latest acquisition, which includes the Anno brand and a 30% stake in the game's developer...


Ubisoft has today announced that it has acquired Sunflowers Interactive Entertainment Software, the German developer/publisher of the Anno series of strategy titles.

Today's deal also sees Ubi acquire a 30% stake in Related Designs, which developed the latest instalment in the Anno series, Anno 1701, which was released in 2006.

"With the acquisition of Anno, Ubisoft reinforces its position in the real-time strategy market. Anno, along with Ubisoft's The Settlers, is one of the most well known franchises in Germany, reaching a wide audience that includes not only traditional gamers, but also women and families. We are proud to add another top-quality brand to our rich portfolio and we are looking forward to bringing the brand to an even wider audience." stated Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft.

Mr Adi Boiko, Cofounder of SunFlowers stated "I'm glad to confide Anno to Ubisoft, a company known for the innovation and creativity of its development teams. The brand will benefit from Ubisoft's global strength, allowing new audiences to discover the pleasure of empire building through new Anno games."

The deal is set to be completed by the time Ubisoft makes its first quarter financial results later in the coming weeks.

The Anno series never impressed me much, but this latest DS port is phenomenal. May very well be the best game I have on the platform. The quality of the port in particular is very high, and the gameplay is exceptional. Hard to believe it could be ma... [ Read full comment... ]
