Starbreeze & Majesco Look Into The Darkness News

Escape from Butcher Bay developer set to adapt Top Cow’s ‘The Darkness’ to a next-gen title in 2006...

Majesco has today announced that it has signed a deal to publish the next-generation title âThe Darknessâ, which is currently under-development at Swedish developers Starbreeze, who last year released the surprisingly good Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay on Xbox and PC.

Adapted from the comic book of the same name, The Darkness will see players take control of protagonist Jackie Estacado a hitman for the Franchetti family who finds himself possessed by the mysterious force known as âThe Darknessâ and having to fulfil his destiny by destroying the mob boss.

Utilising the next-gen engine developed by Starbreeze, The Darkness is described as being ââ¦a seamless and unique blend of modern crime drama and supernatural horror through first and third-person, non-linear gameplayâ which at the very least makes it sound like an interesting twist on the usual non-linear modern crime drama titles that weâre used to...

Confirming the title Jesse Sutton, President of Majesco said, "We are excited to have secured Starbreeze, a highly talented and respected team, to develop one of our first titles for the next generation of video game consolesâ¦Combining the top-tier development talent and technology of Starbreeze with the compelling content of Top Cow's The Darkness comic book series provides a solid foundation for success."

The gameâs release has been pencilled in for 2006, which gives us plenty of time for more details to emerge...

It's a real shame it didnt have another 6months in development because it just needed that time to tidy up all the bugs with the AI.
