LucasArts confirms the news Wii owners have been waiting for; lightsaber action to arrive in The Force Unleashed...
Ever since Nintendo unveiled the Wii-remote and its gesture accelerometers, gamers have been clinging desperately to hear about a lightsaber-based Star Wars game. Hinted at by LucasArts in the past, the Californian outfit has nonetheless held back any confirmation that one was in development...until today.
Already in production for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, and Nintendo DS, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed follows the story of Darth Vader's 'secret apprentice'. Set in between Episodes III and IV, The Force Unleashed is touted to "deliver something Star Wars fans have never seen before," according to LucasArts President Jim Ward.
Ward continued, "The Wii is a great platform for The Force Unleashed, because the console's motion-oriented controllers really bring the game to life," said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts. "We've worked hard to make the Wii version of the game unique in order to truly let you unleash the Force."
In addition to the main Campaign, which will see the nunchuk used to control the Force, the Wii version of The Force Unleashed is set to include an exclusive head-to-head duelling mode - something that will no doubt satisfy the geek lust of many Star Wars fans.
Whilst LucasArts are themselves looking after development on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Krome Studios (Ty the Tasmanian series) are currently working on the Wii version, along with both the PlayStation 2 and PSP editions. N-Space (Geist) is handling the Nintendo DS version.
TVG recently sat down with LucasArts producer Julio Torres and chatted briefly about The Force Unleashed, which you can read here.
