Square-Enix To Announce New Dragon Quest??? News

A cryptic "J" and a weeklong wait for the next issue of Shonen Jump on June 12th before all is revealed...

It's a well documented fact that the Japanese go absolutely berserk for Square-Enix's Dragon Quest series, with instalments of the game only allowed to be released at specific times of the year (in a bid to control the otherwise high levels of dodging school/work), and long queues outside of retailers just two examples of their love for the franchise.

It's been two years since the last Dragon Quest title, Dragon Quest VIII (launched earlier in the year as Dragon Quest: Journey of the Cursed King in Europe) was released in Japan, and it seems that Square-Enix could be about to announce a ninth iteration of the RPG.

A quick visit to Square-Enix's website includes a 'Coming Soon' page that features a huge stylised "J" image and the line: "To be unveiled in Shonen Jump #28 at June 12th".

So all will be revealed next Monday, when issue #28 of Shonen Jump magazine goes on sale across Japan. At which point it could be that the country will begin to get very, very excited with the prospect of playing Dragon Quest IX, or something entirely different if it turns out that wasn't the big surprise after all.
