The long-awaited ninth instalment of the series jumps to a handheld console for the first time...
Square-Enix has today confirmed that the long-awaited Dragon Quest IX is currently in development for Nintendo DS, marking the first time that the main series will feature on a handheld platform.
The surprising announcement ends speculation as to which system the ninth chapter in the franchise would appear on - Square-Enix boss Yoichi Wada even suggested at the end of 2005 that the game could appear on PlayStation3 and Xbox 360. Production is currently underway at Level 5, developers of Dragon Quest VIII, and Rogue Galaxy.
Very little is known about Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of the Starry Sky, other than it'll feature up to four-player Co-Operative play via Wi-Fi. The game is expected to be released in Japan by the end of 2007.
We'll have more news shortly...
