Vivendi-Universal has announced that Spyro Shadow Legacy will be released on the Nintendo DS in Autumn 2005. The game, which has been developed by Amaze Entertainment, aims to push the franchise forward with the introduction of magic powers, martial arts, and RPG elements.

Although perhaps not as complex and detailed as true RPG titles, players will be able to upgrade the dragon’s abilities throughout the game as they gain more experience, and Spyro will also utilise many of the unique features of the handheld console including the DS’ dual screens for casting spells and viewing the game world maps. The wireless features of the console will also be used in the game so that players can trade the various creatures found throughout the title.

“Spyro Shadow Legacy will take the Spyro heritage to the next level with more advanced and interactive features, as well as a greater emphasis on the story, richly developed characters and the introduction of Spyro’s magical abilities,” said Edward Zobrist, Senior Vice President, Global Marketing of Vivendi Universal Games. “Leveraging all of the technology made available by the Nintendo DS and Amaze Entertainment’s gameplay innovations, Spyro Shadow Legacy will give players an entirely fresh and fun experience with one of their all-time favorite[sic] video game characters.”
