Sony & Immersion Settle Rumble News

A $22 million investment brings an end to the dispute; force-feedback SixAxis on the way...


After a well-documented series of disagreements, culminating in a lawsuit that saw rumble features removed from the PlayStation3 SixAxis controller, Immersion Corporation today confirmed a settlement has been reached with Sony Computer Entertainment.

As part of the agreement, Sony Computer Entertainment will pay the full amount dictated in a former judgement, believed to be in the region of $97.2 million. In addition to compulsory fees paid by Sony to Immersion during the last couple of years, Sony will invest a further $22.5 million until the end of 2009.
Sony have announced that the agreement will have no material impact on the company's consolidated earnings forecast that were issued on January 30th 2007.

As a result Sony will be allowed to continue the sales of DualShock controllers that feature the technology, and presumably pave the way for Sony to switch its stance on rumble features in future versions of the SixAxis controller.

this a good thing over 9 yrs it will happen folk wiil soon tire of wii's and the xbox(which is nearly all shooters, fun 4 a while, but ps3 does more in all ways
