Sony: No Drop In PS3 Production News

Despite analysts' claims, SCEE deny reports that PlayStation3 production has been reduced...
In sharp contrast to the extended drought of Wii consoles, supplies of PlayStation 3 continue to be strong, with stock lining most retailers' shelves. Claims and counter-claims that this is due to a successful supply line or that it's down to poor sales, continue to be reported on both sides of the Atlantic, leading to some analysts to suggest that Sony may have cut the number of PlayStation 3s being produced as a result.
Speaking with UK-based industry publication MCV, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's Director of Corporate Communications Nick Sharples denied that such a reduction in manufacturing was taking place, and that any such drop would not affect the hardware's price:
"I'm not aware of any cut in production. We have our forecast for the year for PS3 of ten million and that still stands. Of course, production is adjusted according to stock levels and requirements of different territories. The normal seasonal uplift towards the peak season will happen, but that's completely normal.
"There's absolutely nothing that you can read from that. The idea of price certainly doesn't follow on to any adjustment in production. Analysts may wish to think so, but there's no basis of fact in any of it."
